Sopor Aeternus & The Ensemble Of Shadows o simplemente conocido como Sopor Aeternus (sueño eterno) es una "banda" bastante dificil de clasificar, ya que para empezar cuenta con un solo miembro humano llamada Anna Varney Cantodea, probablemente sea la única banda verdaderamente gótica, sus letras en su mayoría hablan acerca de la muerte, suicidio, soledad, transexualidad. Posee una estetica que a la mayoría le puede parecer chocante, ya que en numerosas fotos ella aparece fuertemente maquillada y con una pseudovagina ya que ella es un transgénero(se siente mujer en el cuerpo de un hombre). Su música a la que ella clasifica como " música para niños muertos y otras almas heridas" esta compuesta de elementos barrocos, neo-clasicos, hasta pasar por la electrónica, haciendola muy dificil de encasillar pero altamente recomendable.
